• Proofreading
  Proofreading means that I check your text for the correct use of spelling, grammar and punctuation. However, I do not make any corrections or provide comments regarding the style and contents of your text. Proofreading is therefore only suitable for texts with a high linguistic quality whose contents have already been reviewed.
• Editing
  Editing means that, in addition to correcting the spelling, grammar and punctuation in your text, I will improve its style (choice of words, repetitions, syntax, structure of the text, etc.) and check whether your text is coherent. If you wish, I can also check the facts in your text (e.g. the spelling of names, the accuracy of numbers and figures, etc.). After you have sent me all the relevant documents, we can discuss which type of proofreading would be best for your text and I will provide you with a price quotation.
• Proofreading of translations
  This means that I will proofread a German translation from English or French. In addition to proofreading the German text, I will compare the translation with the English or French source text. This type of proofreading is only recommended for high-quality translations, which is why I primarily offer this service to other professional translators (four-eyes principle). Proofreading German texts that were translated by a person with mediocre language skills (or even by machine translation) usually takes so much time that you will pay less if I translate the text from scratch.

I charge an hourly rate of €70 for German proofreading or editing. The minimum order value is €50.

The time it will take to proofread your text depends on the quality of the text as well as your wishes and requirements. To give you a rough idea, costs start at €3.50 per page (1500 characters) for proofreading and €7.00 per page (1500 characters) for editing.

If you would like to have a clearer idea of the costs before you hire me to proofread or edit your text – which is absolutely understandable –, I can proofread a part of your text for exactly one hour at my hourly rate of €70. This way, you will get a sample of my work and be able to estimate the required time and costs for proofreading the entire text.

The decision of whether or not to use gender-neutral language in your text is entirely up to you. As with all stylistic requirements, I will strictly adhere to your wishes and demands in this respect. If you are unsure, I am also happy to advise you on the best option for your particular text. Unfortunately, there is no perfect, undisputed, popular or generally accepted solution in this regard, which is why the decision usually depends on personal taste or linguistic economy.
